Baltic Sea Helsinki-Tallinn Euregio: It is established in June 1999 (signing of the Charter Agreement) Euregio became a non-profit organisation in December of 2003 Helsinki-Tallinn Euregio region: The population of Tallinn is 400 000, with metropolitan region about 600 000 Helsinki with metropolitan area is 1,2 million inhabitants

  3. Euregio partners: • Helsinki City (www.hel.fi); • Uusimaa Regional Council (www.uudenmaanliitto.fi); • Tallinn City (www.tallinn.ee); • Estonian Republic (www.riik.ee)represented by Harju County Government (www.harju.ee); • Union of Harju County Municipalities (www.hol.ee)

  4. Helsinki-Tallinn Euregio mission: • The mission of the Euregio is to enhance balanced cross-border integration and to further the creation of Uusimaa-Harjumaa twin-region. • Euregio aims to be an active stakeholder to support and to promote inter-regional development and competitiveness

Interreg IIIA project, 2005-2006, 409 200 EUR Partners: Helsinki Metopolitan Area Council, Harju Public Transport Centre, Tallinn Transport Department Results: Needs’ and restrictions’ assessment and a needs’ analysis for developing a common intelligent public transport ticketing system in Helsinki and Harjumaa, analysis of the existing system mapped, in co-operation with Swedish consultants a new passenger research methodology has been implemented in Harju Public Transport Centre, experiences on organising transport procurements exchanged Developing a common public transportticket system

  12. to promote sustainable accessibility and mobility of people and services within the region; the shortage of transport connections constitutes the most important limitation for further regional integration A railway connection (tunnel) is a missing element not yet evaluated from the point of view of regional economic integration and spatial development the study on socio-economic feasibility of the fixed link would act as an impetus for the promotion of common regional and local development policies Fixed Link project

  13. Create innovative cross-border digital, electronic and mobile services for twin-region. Twin-City TV and joint digital services Target group includes inhabitants of Harju county and Uusimaa, Turku and tourists travelling in Helsinki and Tallinn regions • Develop a multi-channel distribution platform for provision of digitalservices and community/citizens twin-region TV

  14. Tourism is an attractive industry for many stakeholders. Many people, many problems Tourists do not visit a spot, they visit region Tourists do not use service of one enterpreneur, they using many services. NGO-s like euregio are perfect neutral institutions for connecting people (stakeholders) and rise a competitiveness of the region Conclusions
