  1. Alu and the Papyrus By: Caleb H.

  2. Once upon a time there was a poor boy and his mother. The boy’s name was Alu. His mother’s name was Hime’. One day the mother told his son “Go to the king and trade in our fattest camel for some money.”

  3. As Alu got to the king’s throne he saw a man. He said he had some magic Papyrus seeds. Alu foolishly traded the camel for the magic seeds.

  4. When Alu got home his mother asked for the money. He said he didn’t have the money. When Hime’ saw the seeds she was FURIOUS! She threw the seeds out of the sand hut.

  5. For a few days all they ate was any food they found in the cupboard or any food neighbors could spare. Then one night Alu heard a loud noise outside. When he looked outside he saw a giant Papyrus plant!

  6. He went outside and climbed up it. He saw that he was in the afterlife. As he was up there he saw lots of jewels and gold! He thought about telling Hime’, but he thought she wouldn’t believe him.

  7. He tried to gather up as much as he could. As he was leaving he saw “The Devourer of the Dead.” As he was running he grabbed the god’s staff. He climbed all the way down the Papyrus and started to chop it down.

  8. The “Devourer of the Dead” fell all the way down and died. Luckily he had a son. So the Devourer’s son became the new “Devourer of the Dead”. So after all everyone was happy, there was a new, nicer Devourer. Alu and Hime’ were rich and they had enough Papyrus to last a decade!
