KeyEvents • 1957 Paul McCartney meets John Lennon for the first time when John performs on a makeshift stage with the Quarrymen. • 1958 George Harrison is recruited to the band after Paul urges him to play the song “Raunchy” to John Lennon. • 1959 The Casbah coffee dance club opens… the Beatles have their first bookings there. • 1960 The Beatles play their first gig at The Indra in Hamburg. • 1961-2 The Beatles quickly establish themselves as the most exciting group in Liverpool. • 1962 The Beatles signafive-year contract with Brian Epstein. • 1962 The Beatles release their f irstsingle, Love Me Do. • 1964The Beatles release their first film. • 1964IWant To Hold Your Hand reaches #1 in the USA. By April 1964. • 1965 The Beatles release their sixth album. • 1967 Brian Epstein dies following a tragic overdose. • 1969 The Beatles perform together for the last time. • 1970 Abbey Road is released… The Beatles last album. • 1980 John Lennon is shot outside his apartment building in New York by Mark David Chapman.

Time Line • 1957 The band was formed • 1960 First British performance as The Beatles, at the Casbah Coffee Club. • 1962 Record shop owner Brian Epstein becomes their manager. • 1963 Recording of their first album, "Please Please Me", is completed. • 1966 The "Revolver" albumis released. • 1967 Epstein is found dead. • 1969 "Abbey Road" album was recorded. • 1980 John Lennon is shot and killed.
