A Novel Surgical System Landon Donovan, Bob Bradley US Soccer Association hawkeye1@u.washington.edu Introduction Methodology JOHANNESBURG (AP) -- The United States' 2-1 loss to Ghana in extra time, which eliminated the Americans from the tournament in South Africa, was the most-watched men's World Cup game ever in this country. Image:www.inition.co.uk Background An additional 4.5 million people watched on the Spanish-language Univision. The Nielsen Co. said Saturday afternoon's game was seen by an estimated 14.9 million viewers on ABC. had more viewers for a soccer game on an English-language network in the U.S. That game averaged just under 18 million viewers Nielsen said only the 1999 Women's World Cup final, featuring the United States and China and played at the Rose Bowl, Ghana will advance to play Uruguay in the quarterfinals next Friday in Johannesburg, a game that will produce the World Cup's requisite surprise semifinalist. The U.S. undoubtedly will feel it was good enough to have advanced that far, but Gyan made the play when it counted. Tragic for the U.S., but a fabulous finish and certainly a goal worthy of a berth in the quarterfinals. The Americans fought hard to equalize and came relatively close, but exhaustion and a resolute Ghana defense were too much to overcome Acknowledgements References Conclusions and Future Work “US-Ghana sets viewing records for men's World Cup”, http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/sports/2012223043_apsocwcupusratings.html “U.S. Exits 2010 FIFA World Cup in Hard Fought 2-1 Extra Time Defeat to Ghana in Round of 16”, http://www.ussoccer.com/News/Mens-National-Team/2010/06/US-Falls-to-Ghana.aspx RUSTENBURG, South Africa (June 26, 2010) – The U.S. Men’s National Team fell 2-1 in extra time to an inspired Ghana team in their 2010 FIFA World Cup Round of 16 matchup in Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg, South Africa.
