In this group activity, each member is tasked with identifying three prominent themes in Oliver Goldsmith's play "She Stoops to Conquer." For each theme, members will provide a summary of textual evidence that illustrates these concepts. Additionally, the group will discuss the universal application of each theme, considering how they reflect broader societal issues and Goldsmith's satirical intent. This collaborative effort encourages deep engagement with the text and an understanding of its relevance to contemporary society.

Thinking Thematically*Each group member is responsible for a copy of these notes. I will select one to collect per group at random. What? 1. As a group, consider THREE prominent themes within the play She Stoops to Conquer. List them. How? 2. Find at least ONE piece of textual evidence to support each theme. This does not need to be cited directly, but you should be able to summarize it to show textual mastery. Why? 3.Now write the universal application of this theme. How and why does it apply to man and society at large? What is Goldsmith’s purpose regarding this theme? Remember, this is a satirical work!
