  2. WELCOME TO THE 4th SEMESTEROF YOUR GRADUATE STUDIES - Instructions for regular and part-time students-

REGULAR STUDENTS: PROJECT – INTERVIEWS WITH ERASMUS STUDENTS Project purpose: Interculturalization at home Project goal: Developing intercultural competence through interaction with incoming exchange students Skills development: communication in English and intercultural skills + TERM PAPER – printedwithoutpresentation (explainedlaterinthepresentation)

Project steps: Instead1, 2, 3 and4B on the previous slide: TASK: Video interview with ERASMUS student • construction of interview questions (group work) • contacting ERASMUS student to set up an interview • preparation of the script (group work) • interview practice with ERASMUS peer • recording a one-minute video on smartphone • transcript of the video (printed versionneededfor e.g. Studentski portal, Sveučilišni glasnik…) • video editing & joining individual parts into a single video • promotion with ERASMUS students

SUBMISSION OF ASSIGNMENTS IN THE FORM OF: Digital portfolio - the term was coined in 2010 by David Niguidula Definition: "a multimedia collection of student work that provides evidence of a student's skills and knowledge" or " a dynamic, digital collection of information from many sources, in many forms, and with many purposes that better represent a student's understanding and learning experiences " Matt Renwick

Steps: • Ss are to create Google account • open new Google site on their Drive • rename it to DIGITAL PORTFOLIO • in top left corner include their name • include an inspirational quote on the initial page • add pages in accordance with number of assignments (e.g. Assignment 1, Assignment 2…) • each assignment is to be written on separate page • share with the teacher on: engleski@efos.hr

Digital portfolio assignments: ASSIGNMET 1: Short biography and photo - Ss portrait photo • textual biography (200-300 words) – Ss should introduce themselves briefly to the teacher with emphasis on professional experience (key info from Ss academic career - internships, awards, ERASMUS exchange program, volunteering …) + CV in tabular form (free form) DUE: 10 March 2019

ASSIGNMENT 2: Business text reading and translation Menu  All topics  Subjects https://hbr.org/  e.g. Branding  Marketing • choose a text from a subject area of your personal interest (not less than an A4 page), read it and translate into Croatian • attach English version to your Croatian translation, include the link and the date you retrieved the article • Remark: you might be asked to subscribe – it is free! • DUE: 18th March 2019 (Google Sites)

In your audio recording try to cover the following : • What do you think of the document in general? • What are the main drivers of Europe’s future in general according to you? • Where do you see the biggest threats for the future of Europe? • Comment: "Europe cannot afford to lose the most educated age group it has ever had and let generational inequality condemn its future." • How important is functioning of the single market for existence of EU 27 and what does it mean for the free movement of workers and services? • Is boosting economic development guaranteed at all levels? • What are the key values important for sustainability of Europe? • Explain the motto ‘unity in diversity’! • Where do you see yourself as a EU citizen and future workforce?

  13. REMARK: Questions are just guidance, you do not need to cover all of them literally. AUDIO RECORDING: should last between 3 and 5 minutes FINAL STAGE: Share the audio file with your teacher on Google Sites. DUE: 15th April 2019 For the printed version, create a QR code for it and include it on a piece of paper in the printed version under the name and number of the assigment.

  15. ASSIGNMENT 5: Term paper & presentation -written assignment accompanied by a presentation on a topic chosen by the student upon agreement with the teacher  individual consultation sessions throughout semester upon request via email

Term paper guidelines * a major written assignment in a school or college course representative of a student's achievement during a term • area of professional interest / student’s master’s thesis topic  • original work (research topic) discussing the topic in detail • length: 4-6 typed pages (1300-1800 words - excluding the cover page, table of contents and references) • Option A: a short version (summary) of the student’s FINAL MASTER THESIS • Option B: a chosen part / section inside the master thesis HOW TO WRITE A TERM PAPER

  17. Steps: 1. Define your topic MUST BE ACCEPTED BY THE TEACHER BEFORE WRITING ( via email or personally) 2. Generrate ideas MAPPING YOUR RESEARCH IDEAS 3. Do your (literature) research 4. Refine your thesis statement  first draft / outline for the paper - MINDMEISTER VIDEO 5. Whenfinished→

  18. Outline of the main part of your term paper 1. INTRODUCTION – main topic / clarify the thesis statement, hook the reader with a quote or question & elaborate on the reason you are writing and usefulness for the readers 2. BODY - elaborate on your thesis, cite relevant resources - descriptive and explanatory paragraphs - argument each paragraph - write out the main idea for each body paragraph 3. CONCLUSION – summary of arguments & explanation of conclusions: restate, conclude & clincher

  19. Term paper format • title page  EFOS – INSTRUCTIONS(in English!!!) TABLE OF CONTENTS • main part: introduction body - heading I subheading (if needed) heading II subheading (if needed) .... conclusion • summary in Croatian (150-200 words) • bibliography (online articles, books, websites etc.) • your short text biography + picture on the last page (100-120 words)

Presentations guidelines • topic: the same as your term paper • Powerpoint / Canva... • duration: 10 -15 minutes • DUE: LAST WEEK OF MAY as agreed with the teacher • must be sent to the teacher a week before delivery • check the web regularly for additional info and dates or send an email to the teacher

EVALUATION CRITERIA TRANSLATION - 20% AUDIO FILE RECORDING - 20% CRITICAL REVIEW - 20% TERM PAPER - 20% TERM PAPER PRESENTATION- 20% orVariantB – REGULAR STUDENTS PROJECT: Interculturalization at home: Video interview with ERASMUS student + TERM PAPER (printedversion). NOTE: If requirements are not met on time student’s mark for the assignment will automatically be reduced.

  22. Final remarks: Digital versions in the portfolio must be sent chronologically and in accordance with the due dates. Print version must be handed in to the teacher at least 3 days prior to the oral exam (term paper presentations).
