  2. President Nixon elected - 1968 • Richard Nixon, a Republican, was elected in 1968, at the height of the war. How did he gain support in a time when “liberal Democrats” were most present in the media? • Johnson was a Democrat, led us into war. • Elected by the “Silent Majority”.
