  2. In 1789 Morocco was the First country in the world to recognize the independence of the USA

  3. Millennium Challenge Corporation – MCC: • The MCC objective: To increase productivity and improve employment in high-growth sectors (fruit tree productivity, fisheries and artisan crafts, small business creation) In August 2007, the MCC signed a five-year, $697.5 million compact with the Kingdom of Morocco.

  4. Area : 714,000 km squareNatural resources: Phosphates, fish, manganese silver, and copper.Agriculture : Citrus fruits, vegetables, olives, wine and fishing.Industry : Phosphate mining, manufacturing and handicrafts, construction and public works, energy. Official language: Arabic Population : 32,859 million Work force : 11,62 million Currency : Dirham (8.6 to $1)

  5. - Moroccan Government: • New constitution, • New Government, • Very active ministries/departments, • Very dynamic NGOs, - Main National program: • National Initiative for Human Development, INDH

  6. - Civic organizations: • Approximately there are 40,000 NGOs in Morocco: • Operating in many strategic areas: • * Youth sports, • * Women and kids rights, • * Employment and poverty, • * Education and civism, • * Civil society capacity building, • * People with special needs, • * Environment, … • - Media and civil society: • * The media is playing a key role to boost NGOs work,

  7. Challenges: • Unemployment: The rate is 8.5% (January 2012) • Education: The country-wide literacy rates are estimated at 39.6% among women and 65.7% among men, • Health care: Available for employed people only, • Corruption: Mainly in public administration

Solutions to face these challenges: • Unemployment: Creation of 2 main national agencies and get the NGOs involved • Education: Creation of the high council of Education and get a high level of engagement of civic organizations • Health care: Morocco launched the greater public health care service initiative for all citizens, • Corruption : creation of the national agency to fight corruption
