2. Indiana Reading Evaluation Test will be given March 19 - 21, 2012 You may download the IREAD – 3 Item Sampler by visiting the IDOE website: www.doe.in.gov/assessment/iread_resources.html This test is in addition to the ISTEP+ testing. IREAD – 3 is a high stakes assessment!

3. Students who do not not pass… will be retained in grade 3 for the 2012-2013 school year as per Indiana Law, IC 20-32 8.5.2 Exceptions: Students who have been retained twice prior to 3rd grade. Students with an IEP, and whose case conference committee determines to promote upon analysis of the scores

22. REMEMBER Public Law 109 Requires the evaluation of reading skills for students who are in grade three beginning in the Spring of 2012 to ensure that all students can read proficiently before being promoted to grade four.

23. What are the specific ways parents can help your child? Read Together – Children who read at home with their parents perform better in school. Use TV wisely! Academic achievement drops sharply for children who watch more than 10 hours of TV a week, or an average of more than 2 hours a day. Express High Expectations for your Child – Expect your child to read at least 30 minutes a day and to attend school each day on time and to make good grades in school.

24. Take Your Child to the Library every week! Echo Reading – The parent reads a sentence or a page of the story then the child reads the same sentence or page. Buddy Reading – The parent listens to child read the story giving praise or encouragement. Questions – The parent will ask the child these questions – What is the title of the book? What do you think the book or the story is about? How do you know? Tell me about the pictures.

Choral Reading – Parent and child read the book together at the same time. Home Library – Build a home library of books and magazines for your child. Make Reading fun for your child!
