  1. Driving Tickets By Erin & Katherine

  2. Thesis Statement Students are more likely to receive a driving ticket if they: • Are male (qualitative) • Have two or more passengers with them at the time of the ticket (quantitative) • Have made two or more attempts at the G2 level of testing (quantitative) • Also, the reason behind the predominance of the tickets is presumed to be speeding (qualitative).

  3. Sampling Technique We chose to do the cluster random sampling style of surveying by first choosing the grade 12 students as our population, because this grade has a higher number of students with a G2 level of driving. We then chose random classes of grade 12’s and surveyed everyone in that class. There were 90 students surveyed to represent this population.

  4. Pulled OverMales vs. Females

  5. Causality Males Pulled Over % 44 18 40.9 Females Pulled Over % 46 10 21.7 Population Pulled Over % 90 28 31.1

  6. Number of Times Pulled OverMale vs. Female

  7. Number of People Present at the Time of the Ticket Mean: 2.2 Median: 2 Mode: 1

  8. Number of People Present at the Time of the Ticket

  9. Number of People Present Compared to Times Pulled OverLeast Squares Line & Residual Plot r^2 value = 0.18 therefore, the relationship between the two variables is weak

  10. Times Students Took G2 Test vs.Times Pulled Over 29% of students who took the G2 test only once were pulled over, while 33% of students who took the G2 test more than once were pulled over.

  11. Where Students Took Drivers Ed.

  12. Which Driving Company Has The Highest Pull Over Rate?!?!

  13. Reasons For Tickets = 3 students

  14. Bias • Sample Bias – Some classes we approached to survey were unable to complete our surveys because of different reasons, i.e. test or quizzes • Technique was not completely random • Results may have been different if we included grade 11’s in our population

  15. Conclusion Based on the data we collected we found that students are more likely to receive a driving ticket if they : • are male • are driving with 2 or more passengers • have attempted their G2 test more than once • are speeding We were right!
