  1. Who Caused the Whitman Massacre? By Ben Y. Dennis

  2. There are many on event in history. There were two main perspectives on who caused the Whitman Massacre. One point of view is from the Whitman and the other is from Cayuse Indians. Both perspectives leading to and beyond the Whitman massacre. I will begin with white man’s perspective and follow Cayuse Indians' perspective.

  3. In the book Washington our home it says four Indians went to St.Louis to talk to William Clark about the white man’s god. The reason missionaries came is was because the Indians requested them. This is what happened in 1831.

  4. In the book Washington our home is says the Whitmans an the Spaldings came to Oregon Country to start a mission that is now Fort Walla Walla. This is what happened in 1836.

  5. In the book Washington our home it says the Whitman’s mission is a stopping and resting place for settlers. Missionaries tried to convert the Indians beliefs. This is what happened in 1842.

  6. In the book Washington our it says the Whitmans were killed and 13 other people including 2 Sager boys. The reason why the Indians killed the Whitman is because about 200 Indian people died because the doctor’s medicine. This is what happened in 1847.

  7. In the book Washington our home it says Governor Stevens signs 10 treats with different kinds of Indians tribes. This is what happened in 1854-1856.

  8. The Indians perspective is a little different, in the book Washington our is says 3 Nez Perce and 1 Flathead Indian went to St.Louis to ask William Clark to learn about the white man’s god. This is what happened in 1831.

  9. In the book Washington our home it says the Whitman built a mission in Cayuse Indian Territory. This is what happened in 1836.

  10. In the book Washington our home it says measles were brought to the Indians by the settler that were coming in and out of the mission. This is what happened in 1842.

  11. In the article Whitman Massacre it says the Indians killed the whitman’s because the medicine that the doctor is giving them is not good for them so the medicine killed about 200 Indian people so the Indian killed the whitmans and 13 other people. This is what happened in 1847.

  12. In the book Washington our home it says the Indians signed the treaties that they didn’t even understand. The Indians got promises that were not keep all the time. This is what happened in 1854-1856.

  13. In the conclusion I think no body really caused the Whitman massacre because the white man – was helping the Indians to get well when the settler were giving the measles. Mr. Whitman was trying to help the Indians with medicine but the Indian's body were not enough. The Indians-kill the white men because the lost about 200 men, children, and women all together by the medicine and the measles.
