  1. (NLT) Luke 10:30-37: 30Jesus replied with a story: “A Jewish man was traveling from Jerusalem down to Jericho, and he was attacked by bandits. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him up, and left him half dead beside the road. 31 “By chance a priest came along. But when he saw the man lying there, he crossed to the other side of the road and passed him by. 32 A Temple assistant walked over and looked at him lying there, but he also passed by on the other side.

  2. 33 “Then a despised Samaritan came along, and when he saw the man, he felt compassion for him.34 Going over to him, the Samaritan soothed his wounds with olive oil and wine and bandaged them. Then he put the man on his own donkey and took him to an inn, where he took care of him. 35 The next day he handed the innkeeper two silver coins, telling him, ‘Take care of this man. If his bill runs higher than this, I’ll pay you the next time I’m here.’ 36 “Now which of these three would you say was a neighbor to the man who was attacked by bandits?” Jesus asked. 37 The man replied, “The one who showed him mercy.” Then Jesus said, “Yes, now go and do the same.”

  3. See, when we live life from the “Outside in” (Culture & Physical World/Independence) we are focused on image upkeep and what others think of us. When we are more concerned about God’s image formed in us “Inside Out” we are free from the bondage of keeping up appearances.

  6. “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with…. __________ what?

  8. Show Video Clip The Science of Compassion

  9. - (NLT) Isaiah 58:10-11 - 10 Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon. 11 The Lord will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring. - (NLT) Proverbs 22:9 – A generous man will himself be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor.

  10. Hindrance to Compassion

  11. 1.) Where you Live – If you grew up in an environment where compassion was not taught or modeled or your still in that environment, than it will be difficult for you to see the need for compassion as part of your life.

  12. 2.) How you Live – Trying to maintain an unhealthy pace of life.

  13. 3.) How you Give - It’s the problem that results from excessive caregiving. Not being targeted in your compassion.
