  1. Duties and Responsibilities of Ball Retrievers

  2. Retriever Duties (before match) • Ball retrievers may be asked to serve as flag bearers during the presentation of the teams. • Before the presentation of teams, court assistants will be presented

  3. Court Assistants Presentation Report to designated area before the start of the protocol. March near banners at end of court then turn and march onto middle of court March straight back to banners at end of court and then every other person goes left and right. Final position for ball retrieving during warm-ups

  4. Retriever Duties • During the official warm-up, the ball retrievers assist the teams by retrieving warm-up balls. • At the end of the official warm-up, the retrievers collect the warm-up balls quickly then go to positions.

  5. Retriever Duties (during match) • The retrievers will NOT allow the players to warm-up with the match balls (signed by the Referees) • During the match, the retrievers must retrieve the ball at the end of each rally and move that ball toward the next service area as quickly as possible.

  6. Ball Retriever Positions Retrievers #2 and #5 are closest to the servers’ positions, use towels to dry the balls, and will be responsible for giving each server a fresh, dry ball each rally. Retrievers #1 and #4 are in the other corners of the playing area. Retriever #3 is behind the Second Referee and Retriever #6 is behind the First Referee.

  7. Ball Retriever Duties • Retriever #2 and #5 throw the ball to the server with one bounce. • Move the ball toward the next service position quickly, even if the next rally begins – Retrievers #1, 3, 4 and 6 should never hold a ball. • Retriever #2 or #5 should hold two balls during time-outs and set intervals

  8. Ball Retrievers Retrievers should avoid rolling the ball in front of the team benches Retriever #3 will step behind bench and roll ball to #2 and #4 Retriever #2 and #4 should never roll the ball to #3

  9. Ball Retrievers • Ball retrievers should sit on the small chairs provided and not stand or sit in front of the advertising panels.
