  29. Frequently Asked Questions What is DegreeWorks? • DegreeWorks is an easy-to-use web based degree audit and academic advising tool that allows you to view your advisees degree progress. How do I read a DegreeWorks audit? The audit displays: • Basic information such as name, degree objective, major, etc. • Overall requirements to earn the degree • Status of CUNY Skills Assessment Tests • Major field requirements • Concentration requirements (if a concentration is required) • 2nd Major field requirements • Minor requirements • Elective Credits Allowed, Elective Credits Not Allowed, Non-Contributing Grades and Pending Permit Courses • “In-Progress” courses.

  30. FAQ’s continued… The requirements in the audit are not accurate, what should I do? • Send an e-mail to the DegreeWorks help desk via the “Help” button (report a problem). • Indicate the record you are viewing in your e-mail message (student name and last four digits). • Describe the nature of the problem. • The DegreeWorks help desk will research the issue and contact you either via e-mail or phone. • You may also send an e-mail directly to: Tom Sabia at tsabia@ccny.cuny.edu or phone ext 6148.

  31. FAQ’s continued… A student is thinking about a change of major. How will the courses already taken be used toward the new major? Use the “What If” feature by selecting the proposed degree, major and perhaps concentration. The requirements for your selection will appear and you will see how the course-work may be used in the major under consideration. A student has not yet declared a major, can they still use DegreeWorks? Yes, the student should use the “What If” feature, as noted above, to see the requirements for various majors. If I use the “What If” feature does this mean the major has been changed? No. When you select a “What If” major you are not changing the major but rather viewing how credits will be used should the major change. In order to change a major the properly signed “Major Form” must be returned to the Office of the Registrar.

  32. FAQ’s continued… The major in DegreeWorks is wrong, what should the student do? The student must submit a properly signed Major Form to the Office of the Registrar. This form is available from the Office of the Registrar or on line. A course a student took may be substituted for a requirement, why doesn’t this information appear in the audit? The “exception management” system is being introduced to the college community via a phased rollout. More information will be available soon.

  33. FAQ’s continued… How do I print a copy of the audit? Just press the “Print” button in the upper right hand corner of the audit. Is the DegreeWorks audit the same as the CCNY transcript? No. The CCNY transcript is arranged by each semester and is the official documentation of an academic record at CCNY. There was a change on a student record, when will it appear in the audit? The DegreeWorks audit database is updated each night so changes appear the next business day. I have some questions about DegreeWorks, who can help me? Write to us by pressing the help button, in the upper right hand corner of your audit, and then the link; “Report a DegreeWorks Problem”. We check our e-mail each day so we will respond to your request quickly and provide an accurate answer to your question.
