  1. Decision Trees to assist with the Implementation of the Stockholm ConventionDraft April 2005

  2. Background and rationale The Stockholm Convention decision tree tool has been developed by UNEP and UNITAR to provide guidance for project coordinators, ministries, and other interested stakeholders to better understand obligations for Parties under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs). It is designed to support decision making processes in the context of sound POPs management. It can assist Parties to identify their priority actions regarding POPs management and disposal and can help to make existing POPs inventories more comprehensive. The decision tree tool covers areas such as the management and trade of POPs stockpiles and wastes, the elimination of releases from intentional/unintentional production of POPs, identification of sources of POPs releases, as well as the environmentally sound disposal of POPs wastes. The decision tree tool does not always use exact Convention text; therefore the Convention itself should always serve as the final point of reference. The decision trees should only be used as a complementary tool to the Convention text. A “User’s Manual” can be found by clicking on the “?” box above. To begin using the decision tree tool, click on the “home” box above. Decision Trees to assist with the Implementationof the Stockholm Convention
