  2. Causes of the war • The war was started because the Americans were outraged at the enrollment of American sailors into the British Navy. • Also the Indians were upset because the Americans were moving into their land, and the Indians were on the side of the British

  3. America’s forgotten war • The war of 1812 started on June 18, 1812 and was declared by President Madison. • America vs. Britain.

  4. Burn • On April, 1813 the American troops burn down York. • In retaliation the British troops burn down DC and President Madison flees the capital.

  5. On September, 1814 the Americans have a major victory at the Battle of Plattsburg, securing the northern border. • Also on September, 1814 the Battle of Baltimore takes place at Fort McHenry where Francis Scott Key wrote the Star Spangled Banner.

  6. The Treaty of Ghent • The Treaty of Ghent is established when Americans and British diplomats agree to the terms of a treaty and return to how they were before the war • The last battle of the war takes place in New Orleans where Andrew Jackson defeats the British • On February, 1815 the peace treaty is ratifies and President Madison declares the war over
