  2. Monday 3/17/14Aim: What is Op Art? Do Now: List examples of optical illusions you have seen and where you remember them from. HW: March is Youth Art Month! Color in the Art Palette (find template on website) and Design it according to the theme “Art Is....” Be Creative! DUE FRIDAY

  3. Optical Art • “Op Art” In the 1960's, the term "Op Art" was coined to describe the work of a growing group of abstract painters. This movement was led by Victor Vasarely and Bridget Riley.

  4. Britannia - 1961 Artist: Bridget Riley Riley is precise in her line work to allow for maximum vibrant interaction of the eye and mind.

  5. Cataract - 1967 Artist: Bridget Riley

  6. Loss - 1964 Artist: Bridget Riley

  7. Supernovae – 1959-61 Artist: Victor Vasarely Vasarely’s paintings are some of the most powerful examples of Op Art. He used a wide range of mathematical methods using grids.

  8. Vega-Nor – 1969 Artist: Victor Vasarely Optical illusion of a sphere on a flat surface. The illusion is successful due to the ways in which Vasarely used color, shape, and line.

  9. Vonal Ksz Artist: Victor Vasarely Many of Vasarely’s work leads the eye into illusory tunnels.

  10. Cheyt M Artist: Victor Vasarely The different hues and arrangements of his brightly colored geometric shapes create an impression of movement.
