  2. Monday 10/7/13 Aim: How can you begin your final copy drawing of your partner’s shoe? • Do now: warm up with a 5 minute sketch of your partner’s shoe from a new point of view. • Homework: Choose your second assignment from the list of 25 sketchbook choices. Due on Friday 10/11.

This week’s Words To Know: • Composition: the arrangement of art elements on a picture plane • Picture plane: the surface you are drawing on • Contour Line: line that describes inside and outside edges of an object. • Asymmetrical Balance: Design Principle; balanced but not a mirror image. • Movement: Design principle; how your eye is lead around the composition. • Emphasis: Design principle; Drawing attention to one area of your image so that it stands out from other areas. • Repetition: Design principle; using an art element or technique more than once in design.

  4. Tuesday 10/8/13 Aim: How can the style of a word express an idea or feeling? Do now: Read along with the following website https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/705/03/ Answer the following questions: • How can the appearance of a font give off a certain mood? • Why is it important to pick appropriate fonts for certain kinds of text? • What kind of font would your name be written in? Try a sketch! Homework: Continue Sketchbook Assignment due Friday 10/11.

Wednesday 10/9/13 Aim: How can you overlap your partner’s word onto the shoe drawing? • Do now: Take out your shading and technique maps and in the last row of boxes, create two new shading techniques. Try combining two or more techniques together. Homework: Continue Sketchbook Assignment due Friday 10/11.

Overlapping creates space Overlapping creates interest and variety. VARIETY: Design principle; creates interest in a design because of using a range of techniques and art elements. HOW will overlapping a word onto your drawing create more variety?

  7. Thursday 10/10/13 Aim: How can you apply shading techniques within the overlapped letters? • Do now: Add two more invented shading techniques to your invention row on the value/shading map. Homework: Continue Sketchbook Assignment due TOMORROW!
