  3. Obesity is one of the biggest health challenges we face. The Government is committed to taking action to reverse the rising tide of obesity. Almost 1 in 4 adults in England are currently obese, and if we carry on as we are by 2050, 9 in 10 adults will be overweight or obese. From Department of Health website Balanced Diets In Britain up to 30,000 individuals die each year from obesity related conditions

  5. Most – calculate and interpret BMI’s Balanced Diets Doctors use this formula BMI= mass(kg) height 2(m) Under 18.5=underweight 18.5-25= Normal 25-30= Overweight 30= Obese

  6. Some – assess the inaccuracies of BMI’s Balanced Diets Read the article on the back of the sheet, then answer the following questions in your book. Why do some sportspeople often have high BMI’s? What is an ‘apple shape’ and which diseases can it be associated with? Describe an alternative way of measuring obesity, what are the advantages of this method?
