  1. Dental Hygiene

  2. Topics Covered • Cavities • Diet • Sugars • Bacteria • Fortifying Teeth

  3. What are Cavities? • Cavities form when teeth break down. • This is because of acid on the teeth. • Acid can come from bacteria or diet. • It is a hole in the teeth that grows deeper and bigger. • If it grows too big, it will lead to a tooth ache. • To be repaired, it must be filled by a dentist.

  4. What Leads to Cavities? Sugar Poor Diet Ex: Soda Bacteria Acid CAVITIES

  5. Diet • Always avoid acidic foods and drinks. • Ex: soda, candy, etc. • Avoid snacking between meals. • Try to only eat during breakfast, lunch and dinner. • Always try to stay above the “acidic line”. • Every time you go under it, the chances of getting a cavity is raised.

  7. Unhealthy Stephen Curve

  8. Bacteria • If teeth aren’t brushed at least twice a day, plaque will build up. • Plaque is bacteria waste that is left on the teeth. • After about 10 tens, it will turn into tartar. • Tartar is very hard and requires dental instruments. • Bacteria feed off of sugars. • The less sugar you eat, the less bacteria there will be. • Avoiding sugary foods lowers the amount of plaque in your mouth.

  9. Proper Brushing

  10. Proper Flossing

  11. Fortifying Teeth • Toothpaste contains materials that help strengthen the teeth. • It makes the teeth and the gums stronger. • It helps kill plaque. • It allows for more acidic foods to be eaten without cavities to be grown. • Flossing between your teeth strengthens the gums. • Flossing helps get rid of plaque and other materials between the teeth.
