  1. CAP in BMKG Planning and its Implementation BY Karyono Meteorological climatological and geophysical agency INDONESIA April 2013

  2. OUTLINE • INTRODUCTION • BMKG DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS • CAP IMPELENTATION PLANNING IN METEOROLOGY AND CLIMATOLOGY • CAP IMPLEMENTATION PLANNING IN GEOPHYSIC

  3. INTRODUCTION • BMKG (Meteorological climatological and geophysical agency) ,INDONESIA • THE ONE OFFICAL INSTITUTION FOR Meteorological climatological and geophysical SINCE 1947 • JOINT TO WMO 1950 • with 3000 employee

  4. BMKG DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS • The implementation, monitoring and control of observations, and processing of data and information in the area of meteorology, climatology, and geophysics • Data and information services in the area of meteorology, climatology, and geophysics

  5. BMKG DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS CONT. • The transmission of information to agencies and stakeholders and the public about climate change • The transmission of information and early warnings to the government and the public about natural disasters caused by meteorological, climatological, and geophysical factors • The promotion of international cooperation in the areas of meteorology climatology and geophysics

  6. CAP IMPELENTATION PLANNING IN METEOROLOGY and CLIMATOLOGY • InaMEWS (METEOROLOGICAL EARLY WARNING SYSTEM) • CAP PLANNING FOR InaMEWS

  7. InaMEWS (METEOROLOGICAL EARLY WARNING SYSTEM) Potential products: • Weather • Marine forecast • Aviation forecast

  8. CAP PLANNING FOR InaMEWS • Under construction

  9. CAP IMPLEMENTATION PLANNING IN GEOPHYSIC • InaTEWS (INDONESIA TSUNAMI EARLY WARNING SYSTEM • CAP PLANNING FOR INATEWS

  10. InaTEWS (INDONESIA TSUNAMI EARLY WARNING SYSTEM

  11. InaTEWS INTRODUCTION • Indonesia is prone to earthquakes because it is located at the meeting point of three tectonic plates, namely: Indo-Australian Plate, the Eurasian plate and the Pacific plate. • The meeting point of three tectonic plates are located on the sea so that when a large earthquake occurs at shallow depths, it can be potentially tsunami. Therefore, Indonesia is prone to tsunamis

  12. InaTEWS INTRODUCTION cont. • Learning from the experience of the earthquake and tsunami in Aceh, Mentawai and other areas that cause casualties and property losses, therefore it is needed preparedness efforts by both government and the community to reduce the risk due to earthquake and tsunami. • As the tsunami hazard preparedness efforts, the government of Indonesia in cooperation with various parties established the Indonesian Tsunami Early Warning System

  13. SEISMICITY OF INDONESIA PACIFIC PLATE. EURASIAN PLATE INDO AUSTRALIAN PLATE

  14. TSUNAMI PRONE AREAS IN INDONESIA 14

  15. InaTEWS INTRODUCTION cont. • InaTEWS stand for Indonesia Tsunami Early Warning System • Formally launched at November, 11th 2008 • InaTEWS produces Earthquake Informations and Tsunami Warnings • InaTEWS should disseminate Tsunami Warning within 5 minutes after earthquake
