  1. Uae Conservation International Fund for Houbara Conservation

  2. Uae Conservation The Centre located in Sweihan, Abu Dhabi, was established in 1989 as the first centre specialised in breeding and conducting research related to the Asian Houbara bustard. It is the global leader in research on the Asian Houbara with advanced programmes studying the physiological, genetic and behavioral characteristics of the Asian Houbara. It is also the base for collecting and assessing all data from birds carrying tracking devices throughout their range countries in the Middle East and Central Asia. Houbarafund.org

  3. Houbarafund.org Captive Breeding Scientific study has been the basis upon which Abu Dhabi’s captive breeding programme was founded and developed. Only by studying the birds’ physiological and behavioral characteristics, both in the wild and in captivity, can the suitable artificial conditions to produce the bird in large numbers be recreated. Initial studies led to a break-through in 1996 when the first captive-bred Houbara chicks were hatched.

  4. Release Programme IFHC follows a rigorous scientific strategy for releasing birds.  Captive-bred Houbara for release are monitored in their release cages and assessed for when they are ready to be released into the wild.  Following strict protocols (and meeting all necessary regulatory requirements, such as CITES – as an endangered species permission is needed to export the birds) the birds are transferred to specially selected release sites in countries across the species’ range.  Houbarafund.org

  5. Ecology & Research To be truly effective in successfully reintroducing captive-bred Houbara to reinforce existing populations, it is essential to understand fully the factors that make wild populations sustainable. Therefore, ecology and scientific research are paramount to the work of IFHC. Through a world-leading team of field scientists and researchers, IFHC has dedicated its resources to understanding the conditions of a healthy environment in which the Houbara bustard can thrive, and to understand all characteristics of the species’ behaviour. Laboratory and field studies have provided insights which have led to ground-breaking scientific developments.  Houbarafund.org
