  2. What is a passenger policy? • Passenger height policy is the official rules and regulations that an airline has in place for taller than average passengers. Airlines have passenger sizing policies to ensure their safety, particularly during emergency evacuations, as well as to assess whether a passenger will fit comfortably in their seat.

  3. British Airways Plus size Passenger Policy • British Airways has a passenger size policy in place for passengers weighing more than 16 stone (102 kg), measuring more than 22 inches (56 cm) wide or who require a seat belt extender. • If you are considered a high passenger by British Airways and are feeling anxious, they advise you to contact them before booking your flight so they can assess the situation and advise you on your next steps. British Airways’ policy for tall passengers states that a passenger may be required to purchase additional seats, depending on their needs. This is usually the case if you cannot lower your armrest.

  4. Seats with British Airways • British Airways hasn’t defined seat dimensions for all aircraft types, but it has shared some information about the most popular planes in its fleet: • The Airbus A320 has a seat width of 17.28 inches (44 cm) and an overall seat pitch of 31 inches (79 cm). • The Boeing 777–200 has a wider seat of 18.50 inches (47 cm) but a reduced pitch of 29 inches (74 cm).

  5. Do you have to pay to choose a seat? • Whether your seat selection is free or you have to pay extra depends on many factors, including the fare you choose and your travel cabin. • You can choose your seat for free from 24 hours before departure, when check-in opens, unless you have booked a Basic ticket (economy, hand luggage only) for which your seat is allocated to you. • With a Basic ticket (economy, hand luggage only), you can either:Pay to choose your seat from the moment you book until check-in opens, orWe will assign you a seat free of charge when registration opens. You can then pay to change seats, although your choice may be limited.

  6. How to reserve an additional seat? • Please contact us 1(888)-657–3644 to make a reservation for an additional seat, as this type of reservation cannot be made online. • If you arrive at the airport and have not reserved an additional seat in advance, please speak to a member of British Airways staff. If there are seats available in the cabin you are traveling in, you may be able to purchase an additional seat. • At many airports, including London Heathrow, London Gatwick and some airports in North America, you can only pay with a card. Please check with a member of our staff at the airport to see if options are available to convert cash to a payment card.
