  3. Function of SDMD • Information Resource • Assists in management of services • Research tool

  4. SMR25 – 2 steps • Step 1: Collect more information about drug use and social circumstances • Step 2: Follow-up System • Number of people in treatment • Length of time in treatment • Changes over time

  5. What this means (Step 1)… • SMR25 paper form replaces SMR24 • Changes based on information from: • Service feedback on SMR24 • Scottish Executive • Specialist groups e.g. SDF • Clinicians • Pilot study

  6. Pilot study February 2006 The Aims • To test the acceptability of the new data items • To prepare for the national roll out of the new data system The Sites • 6 services in West Lothian • 1 service in Galashiels

  7. Results from the pilot study • 7 services agreed to participate • Total of 43 forms completed • Comments generally positive • Forms similar to SMR24 • Add ‘housing’ and ‘child and family’ as source of referrals • Add ‘debt’ to funding drug habit

  8. Submission Criteria • Initially existing treatment agencies • Submission criteria - assessment rather than service based • New client definitions • Definition of Assessment scenarios

The Differences… • Section 6 -Prescription drug profile • verification is now recorded • Section 7 -IIlicit drug profile • alcohol is no longer recorded in this section • Spend in a typical day is a new question • Section 8 -Injecting Sharing section • layout has been revised due to quality issues with SMR24

  15. Mandatory V’s Core Data Items • All other sections of the SMR 25 data set • 1st letter of Forename • 1st & 4th Letter of Surname • Gender • Date of Birth • Date assessment completed

  16. SMR25 (Step 2)… Move from paper to electronic data transfer: • Web-based system • Extraction from existing local information systems

  17. Step 2 continued… • Timing of data collection • Submission intervals • Initial report after preliminary assessment • Follow-ups at 3 months and then annually • Transfer/Discharge
