Mantua Village History and Demographics--Julia History: -Started forming around the early 1800’s with just a railroad station. - Mantua was named after a popular city in Northern Italy. - This area used to be a shipping point for local farmers. Jack Lambert • He was born in Mantua, Ohio. Jack Lambert was the quarterback for Crestwood High School before switching to defensive end when he played for Kent State. He went on to play for the Pittsburgh Steelers as a linebacker. Hart Crane • Hart Crane was born inGarretsville, Ohio. He was a famous poet. His father, Clarence Crane, was a successful Ohio businessman who invented the Life Savers candy and held the patent, but sold it for $2,900 before the brand became popular.
