  1. Jesus: Son of God Fulfilled Prophecies and the Resurrection

  2. Fulfilled Prophecies in Jesus • If you are not satisfied with 450 B.C. as the historic date for the completion of the Old Testament (and all the prophecies about Christ contained in it), take into consideration the following: The Septuagint–the Greek translation of the Hebrew Scriptures–was initiated in the reign of Ptolemy Philadelphus (285-246 B.C.). It is rather obvious that if you have a Greek translation initiated in 250 B.C., then you had to have the Hebrew text from which it was written. This will suffice to indicate that there was at least a 250-year gap between the prophecies being written down and their fulfillment in the person of Christ. (McDowell, The New Evidence That Demands a Verdict, p.168)

  39. Prophecies Fulfilled in Jesus • The prophecies about Jesus in the Old Testament are from the following books, written around the following times: • Genesis 1446-1406 B.C. • Deuteronomy 1446-1406 B.C. • Psalms 1003-970 B.C. (Davidic Psalms) • Isaiah 701-681 B.C. • Jeremiah 626-c. 586 B.C. • Daniel c. 530 B.C. • Amos c. 760-750 B.C. • Micah c. 750-686 B.C. • Zechariah c. 520- after 480 B.C. • Malachi soon after 430 B.C.

  40. Prophecies Fulfilled in Jesus • The prophecies cover all aspects of Jesus’ life, from His conception and birth to his death, burial, and resurrection. • Some critics have suggested that Jesus contrived to fulfill the prophecies on His own or that He accidentally fulfilled the prophecies.

  41. Prophecies Fulfilled in Jesus • Many of the prophecies were out of His control • The timing of His birth • His virgin birth • The visit of the wise men • The dividing of His clothing at the crucifixion • His unbroken bones on the cross • The scattering of His disciples

  42. Prophecies Fulfilled in Jesus • Fulfilling all the prophecies accidentally (without a Divine Plan behind it) defies probability. • Remember 1 in 1x1017 – the probability that any one person could fulfill the 8 major prophecies concerning the Messiah.
