  1. Municipal Solid Waste Gasifiers in India – Chanderpur Group There is a dire need for converting the landfills into usable energy given the status of waste produced in India. The projections indicate the amount of solid waste to double in upcoming years. The introduction of gasification technology is a viable solution to this problem. Currently, many sectors are investing in municipal solid waste gasifiers in India. The Process The core principle of gasification is treating the waste at temperatures as high as 1800°C in the limited amount of oxygen. The process leads to the generation of syngas which can be utilized for many purposes. The resulting by products of this process is also used for purposes such as making bricks. If useless, the waste is returned to landfills, but it is in much- compressed form, therefore, is still a better practice than dumping the garbage straight to the landfills. Carbon Emission The process is environmentally friendly in terms of carbon emission as the gases released are way less in amount than what is emitted from the unsanitary landfills. This is a scientific approach in which the waste is assorted into categories and treated accordingly. This makes the process relatively safer. The municipal solid waste in India contains a major proportion of organic wastes due to which this process can be more manageable. Economics These waste-to-energy municipal solid waste gasifiers in India require the investment of over 100 million INR for setup but subsidies as high as 50% may be available on these. The economics can be balanced if the gasification plant is designed upon a detailed analysis of the type of waste to be treated and the processes required for each type of waste. It also depends largely upon the capacity of the gasification plant. The gasification technology in India is a relatively newer concept that is still evolving, however, its potential to deal with the disposal of municipal solid waste is undeniable. http://www.chanderpur.com/
