  1. 6 Tips to Prevent Cavities if You Have a Sweet Tooth

  2. You Have a Sweet Tooth? • You don't have to say goodbye to sweets completely to care for your teeth. You can still indulge in your favorite desserts once in a while and at the same time, maintain good oral health. • Sugar can be damaging to the teeth only when you set aside good oral hygiene habits.  • It also helps to know how much sugar there is in your food so you can weigh your choices accordingly.

  3. Here are Tips to Prevent Tooth Decay If You Have a Sweet Tooth:

  4. Drink Your Water • After consuming sugary food, don't forget to drink water. • Since you cannot brush immediately after eating, drinking water is the best way to help flush down debris in your mouth, including sticky substances. • Water will also help restore pH levels in your mouth to prevent acids from attacking your teeth enamel.

  5. Use a Straw • Consider taking a reusable straw with you anywhere you go so you will not have to sip directly from the glass. • Drinking soda or juices can be harmful to the teeth as they're both sugary and acidic. By using a straw, you reduce direct contact of acids and sugar onto your teeth. • If you have kids, avoid keeping juices in their bottles so they won't go drinking it throughout the day. Get them used to drinking water regularly instead.

  6. Eat Sweets In Moderation • Avoid constantly snacking on sweets throughout the day. Don't store sweets so you can also resist the temptation. • Consider your diet and plan which types of sugar you should be eating with your meal. • A sweet treat every now and then should be fine, but learn to control yourself so you don't over-indulge.

  7. Eat Healthy • This may be tough if you’re not used to eating fruits and vegetables. But if you’re able to step into this habit, it’ll be beneficial not only for your oral health, but also for your general health. • A healthy diet can also help strengthen and keep your teeth healthy. • Take it one step at a time by mixing greens into your recipes or trading your usual snacks with fruit slices.

  8. Wait Until You Brush • Your teeth are vulnerable to acid attacks right after eating. • Eating alters the pH levels in your mouth so you'll want to wait for at least 30 minutes before brushing. • If you have an important meeting to go to, you can instead rinse your mouth with water to prevent sugar from lingering too long.

  9. See Your Dentist Regularly • Get your mouth checked regularly for potential signs of a cavity. • Professional dental cleanings will also prevent the buildup of plaque in your mouth. If you are more prone to cavities, your dentist may ask you to visit the office more frequently. • Take the opportunity to discuss dental home care with your dentist.
