  2. Natural Gas Benefits • Good near term solution for lower emissions, but for only a couple years (2010) • Landfill’s have the ability to produce own fuel • Reduces demand for foreign oil Peterbilt / Cummins Westport LNG Trucks

  3. Natural Gas Challenges • Lower energy density requires numerous CNG or expensive LNG tanks • Lower acceleration vs. horsepower • Extensive infrastructure for delivery • Special provisions for servicing • Higher initial procurement and maintenance cost LNG Refueling Station

  5. HLA Benefits • Reduces emissions by launching the vehicle using pure hydraulic or blended power • Regenerative braking reduces brake wear • Lower maintenance cost • Reduces particulate matter emissions from brake dust. • Improved fuel economy reduces demand for foreign oil • Technology and trucks developed in Denton, Texas

  6. How does the HLA System work? Regeneration Mode During braking, the vehicle’s kinetic energy drives the pump/motor as a pump, transferring hydraulic fluid from the low pressure reservoir to the high pressure accumulator. The fluid compresses nitrogen gas in the accumulator and pressurizes the system. Launch Assist Mode During acceleration, fluid in the high pressure accumulator is metered out to drive the pump/motor as a motor. The system propels the vehicle by transmitting torque to the driveshaft.
