  2. About Civil Engineering • Civil engineering is one of the oldest types of engineering. It involves the design, construction and management of municipal infrastructure, highways, railways, transit systems, airports, harbours, bridges, tunnels and buildings.

  3. Examples • The Great Wall of China, the Chunnel between England and France, and the Confederation Bridge are great examples of what civil engineers do. • Highways, bridges, tunnels, schools, hospitals, airports and other buildings are other structures that civil engineers design and make.

  4. Education • Civil engineers typically possess an academic degree with a major in civil engineering. The length of study for such a degree is usually three to five years and the completed degree is usually designated as a Bachelor of Engineering.

  6. Salary • The average salary for a civil engineer is about $87,000. • But the salary can range from $48,000 up to $110,000.

  7. Jobs • Roads, Buildings, Airports, Tunnels, Dams, Bridges, or Water Supply and Sewage systems are just a few jobs in the civil engineering field.
