  1. Keeping children and young people safe in a digital world LSCB survey of pupils, teachers, parents/carers and other professionals

  2. Challenges • Greater exposure than ever before to the digital world • Help children develop the skills to navigate safely through this digital world • Encourage them to create a positive digital footprint • Increasing (and rightly so) pressures to reduce filtering and blocks within schools and across LAs and regions (Hwb)

  3. Background • Conference organsied by FWLSCB at Deeside College for practitioners and Young People • Young People’s panel • Assumptions

  4. Assumptions being addressed through the questionnaire • Wider range of evidence required • ‘Just because we use facebook, you think we know how to stay safe’ • Enabling the digital classroom – not enabled now?

  5. Children use the internet in a variety of locations

  6. And for lots of different reasons ….

  7. If they can get on the internet, can they get what they need in schools?

  8. What next? • Further analysis of results • More access to digital space • More collaborating and participating • We need to teach young people the way to interact with the digital world appropriately, to build their sense of entitlement into a sense of responsibility and to work with them on effective and safe strategies for protection.
