  2. Objective of Video: • Due to an increase in the number of work zones in • North Carolina, NCDOT recognizes the need for • audience-specific work zone safety awareness. • North Carolina has consistently ranked • among the top ten states with the highest • number of crashes involving commerical • motor vehicles since the late 1990’s.

  3. Statistics show that work zone crashes involving large trucks are significantly more likely to be fatal

  4. Implementation: • In an effort to educate professional truck drivers • about the hazards associated with work zones • and other construction-related activities, as well • as highlight their roles as NCDOT’s • partners on the highway, NCDOT partnered with • Carolina’s Associated General Contractors and • the North Carolina Trucking Association to produce a • safety video. • The video was developed for truck drivers • with ongoing input from truck drivers. The • video’s concept and script were developed • with feedback from several focus groups • comprised of career truck drivers.

  5. The video provides truckers with tools for driving • safely through work zones. • The video was filmed in several North Carolina • work zones, and features professional actors, a • NCDOT engineer, two NCSHP officers and truck • drivers from across North Carolina.

  6. Budget: • The budget for producing and distributing this • video was approximately $35,000. This • included production costs, talent, filming and • replication. • Partnerships with the Carolina’s Associated • General Contractors and the North Carolina • Trucking Association enabled NCDOT to • take advantage of the resources available to • various industry partners across the state, • including truck drivers, trucks, fuel, and other • equipment.
