  5. Compassion • Use positive words when speaking to students and staff • Ignore the inappropriate words and actions of others • Listen quietly while others are speaking • Lend a helping hand • Value the opinions of others • Work through problems together

  8. Standards-Based Grading • Grades based on your achievement of the learning goals. • 10% - Formative Assessments • Informyou and the teacher • 90% - Summative • Sumup your understanding

  9. Formative vs. SummativeThe Sports Analogy • Your coach has you practice, gives you skills and suggestions to work on, and you work towards improvement. • That’s Formative • It’s Game Day. You have put in your time practicing and now you must perform. • That’s Summative

  10. Formative Assessments • Practice Days • 10% of your final grade • Not everything is “graded” but everything is assessed • The teacher will look at your work and provide feedback. • They will record you improvement, but the work may or may not be included in your formative grade.

  11. Summative Assessments • Game Day • 90% of your final grade • There will be a summative assessment for each learning goal. • What if I fail or do poorly? • You may retake/redo the assessment • Requirement: study session, extra work, etc.
