  1. Location and Population • It is the capital city of the Italian region of Tuscany and of the province of Florence. It has a population of 370,000 inhabitants.

History : • Florence originated as a Roman city, but it was established as a city by Cornelius Sulla in the year 80 BC. • Originally it was called Fluentia owing to the fact that it was built between 2 rivers. • Later, Florence became one of the most powerful cities in Europe because of the developments in trade and banking techiniques.That´s why the Renaissance flourished in Florence. • Nowadays, Florence is one of the most important cities

  6. The Cathedral of Florence • This cathedral is the tallest building in Florence and it is the most famous landmark. • This massive Gothic cathedral has an eyecathing dome (built by Brunelleschi) • The interesting thing about the dome is that it was built without scaffolding!

  8. Arno River • The city is divided by this river. Tourist attractions exist on both the noth and the south sides of the river. • Visitors can enjoy walks along the Arno. • It is a wonderful place where you can relax and take photographs

  10. The Palazzo Vecchio • It is a fortified palace which includes a tall bell tower. • A museum is now located in the palace.

  12. Michelangelo Square • It is one of the most impressive landmarks in Florence. • It is perched high on a hillside and from there you can see the entire city. • A replica of Michealangelo´s statue of David stands in the centre

  13. Things to do in the free time • Uffizi Gallery. • Climb Either the Brunelleschi´s Dome or Giotto’s Tower. • Watch the Arno Pass Under the Ponte Vecchio.

  16. Uffizi Gallery It has the best collection of Italian paintings. The Renaissance flourished in Florence and that´s why Florence has some of the best masterpieces of art. • It has rooms with enormous paintings. • It is a surreal experience, it´s like you are in the paintings
