  4. Videography • We will learn a basic operating understanding of digital cameras and equipment, as well as video editing using Movie Maker and Final Cut.

  5. Media Productions, Course Content • We will learn how to write, produce, visualize and film short films and documentaries.

  6. Products • We will be producing a regular video newsmagazine for the school, as well as numerous other projects.

  8. Media Productions, Course Content • We will learn the basics of “Comic Life,” a program for creating digital comics and graphic novels.

  13. The Rules of The Tech Lab

  14. Food and Drink • No pop, gum, candy or any other sticky type food is allowed in The Tech Lab at any time. • Students can have water, but only from enclosed containers. • No Pop, Juice, etc.

  15. Music • Machines that create music are allowed in the Tech Lab, but only when WORKING on a project. • RAT on Mr. B. and Music goes away. • No playing streaming music from your computer!

  16. Funny Movies! • Nope, sorry! • Hogs bandwidth. • Wastes time. • See: Discipline.

  17. Hats and other headcoverings. • School policy forbids the wearing of a hat on campus this year. • If a student has a hat on in the classroom, it will be confiscated. • Do it twice and the world may end.

  18. Cell Phones • No Cell Phones allowed in The Tech Lab. (Especially Camera Phones.) • If I ask for your phone, give it to me or face possible suspension. • If found, Cell Phones will be taken and given to Mr. Ward.

  19. Games and Email • Access to online games or email in The Tech Lab is strictly prohibited. • Offenses will likely result in loss of computer privileges and all that other stuff.

  20. My Computer • DO NOT touch my teacher’s computer without permission! • This is a violation of the code of conduct and you can be expelled!

  21. Respecting The Tech Lab • Keep your feet off the desks and chairs. • Please don’t mess with my windchimes, my snake, my spider or other stuff without permission.

  22. IT’S FREEZING IN HERE! • Yeah, I know, get used to it. • Try wearing a sweater…

  23. Work Ethic • Up to 50 percent of the grading for any of our projects will be based upon Work Ethic. • Hard work will be rewarded in this class. • “Skating by” will result in grades of “C” or lower.

  24. Late Work • Work turned in late or missed because of an unexcused absence will receive a score of 0. • If you need help or more time on an assignment, SEE ME before it is due!

  25. Turning in Assignments • All Work will be submitted via the Network Dropbox Folder • Improperly copied or misnamed files will not receive any credit.

  29. Escaping the Tech Lab • Sounds awful? You can transfer out of the class… • But you might need this class to graduate… • However, you can get out once in awhile…

  30. Passes • There will be no Passes given to any students during the first 60 minutes of the class. • After the first 60 minutes of class, students may use one of their 5 semester Hall Passes. You have to sign for it. • Used all your 5 passes, don’t ask again!

  31. Passes- continued • Students who refrain from using their Hall Passes for an entire semester will receive consideration at the end of the semester when considering borderline grades. • Students leaving the class on a pass for more than 5 minutes will lose all passes for the rest of the semester.

  32. Special Considerations for Media Productions Class Much of the work for this class will be OUTSIDE the classroom. Students must be professional when outside the classroom. You will often be required to take home cameras or other equipment worth hundreds or thousands of dollars, treat this equipment VERY carefully!

  33. Discipline in the Tech Lab consists of FIVE Steps:

  34. Step ONE (New this year) • The Corner Computer.

  35. Step TWO • No Computers!

  36. Step THREE • Long, boring writing assignments that must be completed to pass.

  37. Step FOUR • Letter home to your parent or guardian.

  38. Step FIVE • The Discipline Form

  39. REALLY BAD THING #1 • Accessing inappropriate material on the Internet is forbidden. This includes: • Any images of clothing (or lack thereof) that violate the school dress code. • Any sites related to violence, guns, alcohol or drugs, unless specifically connected to a school assignment.

  40. A Quick Test: Which is school appropriate?

  41. REALLY BAD THING #2 • Using the computer to intimidate or harass others. • This can include use of your personal computer at home.

  42. REALLY BAD THING #3 • Damaging or vandalizing any of the school’s computers or technological equipment.

  43. DOING A REALLY BAD THING? Expect loss of computer privileges suspension, expulsion, or worse…
