GOES Sounder-Based Products for Automated Monitoring of the Pre-Convective Storm EnvironmentA joint project between MDL/NWS and NESDIS Future Developments • Monitor the location of maximum instability and moisture axes prior to the development of thunderstorms • Monitor the temporal changes in stability and moisture environment • Issue an alert to get the forecaster’s attention when the temporal changes in the stability exceeds some predetermined threshold indicating significant destabilization Objectives:

GOES Storm Identification and TrackingAn initiative between MDL/NWS and NOAA-CREST (Cooperative Remote Sensing Science and Technology Center) Future Developments • Automatic identification, monitoring and tracking of intense convective systems • The detection of rapidly developing convective cells Objectives: To enhance the AWIPS thunderstorm product by providing information about significant convective systems from isolated convective cell to Mesoscale Convective Complex. The objectives of the system are twofold:
