  2. Young Researcher’s Retreat 2012 • Date: Nov. 17 (Sat)– 18 (Sun), 2012. • Place: New-HeartpiaOnsen (Kuwana city, Mie) • Participants: 42 (including 3 staffs)

  3. Executive Committee • The chair: TomoyaIju (SW-Lab., D3) • 9 organizers Policy for the retreat 2012 • We regarded the following things as important: • communication between students, • understanding studies in other fields of physics, and • giving a plain explanation for his (her) research to other students.

  4. Schedule for the Retreat 2012 • Joint session • At least, a student should give a talk for each laboratory. • More time for the poster presentation.

  5. Workshop • Students give ether an oral or a poster presentations in this meeting. • oral (25 min. each): 15 students • poster presentations: 24 students • Topics include the astrophysics, particle physics, and solar-terrestrial physics. An example of oral presentation Poster presentations

  6. For the Hotel, Meal, and Award • We searched the hotel, which is not so distant from Nagoya and have good facilities (e.g., a spa). • We chose the highest grade plan in this hotel for the meal because nice dishes delighted participants. • We awarded prizes for the best presentation to four students.

  7. Comparison with Earlier Retreats

  8. Result of Questionnaire (The number of replies) • Schedule for the retreat 2012 (two days, one night) • The date for the retreat 2012 (Nov. 17 - 18) • The difficulty of understanding presentations

  9. Comparison with the Retreat 2011 for the Difficulty of Understanding Presentations

  10. Affirmative comments • I got an opportunity to listen a talk on the experimental physics. It is useful to improve myself. • Very good activity. • Good location. Comments Comments for the improvement of retreat • Please be held on weekdays. • Students should talk about not only a overview of his (her) research field but also the detail of his (her) study. • Others • (to acquire the fundamental knowledge about other studies) It is desirable that we have more communication in usual days.

  11. Future Retreat Meeting • The retreat meeting is a good opportunity to (1) get to know many topics for physics, and (2) get used to the talk and discussion in English. • For getting the fundamental knowledge about other studies, the collaboration with the young researcher’s seminar is an effective way. • For the arrangement of retreat, the place and good meal are very important because those enhance the participant’s motivation.

  12. Summary • We held the retreat meeting 2012 between Nov. 17 and 18 in Kuwana city. • 39 students and 3 staffs participated in the retreat. • The workshop was useful to got to know many topics for physics. • For the arrangement of retreat, the place and good meal are very important because those enhance the participant’s motivation.
