Social innovation through Education and Research • The increasing need for a different type of skills, qualifications and capability set that innovation seems to require • Social Innovation through education and research is centered on new knowledge acquisition to add jobs and promote new solutions to tackle unemployment persistent problems within our society. • Social Innovation needs to become people centered. People hold the key role in the innovation process as the creators and carriers of knowledge

Conclusions • Social and economic cohesion as the condition to build a responsible innovation and sustainable growth to respond to society needs • Regional tree of Education and research with strong roots in a fertile soil (rich in education tradition and work culture) • Integration between the different branches • Working together: complementarity with other trees (different regional policies) and integration in the regional « garden» (people, community, institutions, governance, values, symbols) • Dry branches can be cut: not the sprouts for education • A change of paradigm: towards the human age with « people at the core » of society?
