  4. LODGING • New hotels, resorts, and lodging facilities open each year • The industry will continue to expand • No one knows how many will be built, or where they will be built • Career opportunities continue to grow

  5. FOOD SERVICE INDUSTRY • Commercial Cafeterias • Education Food Service • Employee Food Service • Full-Service Restaurants • Health-Care • Lodging Food Service • Quick-Service Restaurants • Recreations Food Service • Social Caterers

Food Service Industry • NRA (National Restaurant Association) • Food industry sales are about 4% of the US gross domestic product (GDP) • Most eating and drinking places are small businesses (7 out of 10 have less than 20 employees) • More than 70 million meals & snacks are eaten in restaurants, schools, & work cafeterias each year • In 2010 the restaurant industry is expected to operate more than 1 million units and post $577 BILLION in sales

  8. Careers in the Hospitality Industry • Why do people go into the hospitality industry? • The industry offers more career options than most • The work is varied • There are many opportunities to be creative • It is a “people” business
