  2. Problem/Justification • When exploring career options, many people, particularly young people, limit their career choices just because they think the job they want is meant for a person of a specific gender. • One option many people overlook in their job search is nontraditional employment.

  3. Project Objectives After visiting this WBL module, the individual will • Broaden their perspectives on career opportunities. • Will understand the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to pursue a nontraditional career. • Will explore how his or her innate interests and abilities might work in nontraditional career opportunity. • Will know where to go for further information or training.

  4. Design MetaphorVisual and Organizational • Graphic elements such as photos will show men or women successfully operating in nontraditional occupations. • Familiar occupations will be presented in a new context so that the individual will have easy access to information while gaining personal feedback.

  5. Project Learning Activities • Interest Surveys—Learner will discover how his or her innate skills and abilities might mesh with what is typically considered a “male occupation” or a “female occupation.” • Learner will choose a NTO of interest and using hyperlinks explore the skills and abilities needed and discover whether his or her interests and abilities coincide. • Learners will interact with other career explorers either through collaborative feedback or online discussion.

  6. Project Learning Activities (continued) • Learners will access hyperlinks to national and local organizations that promote NTOs and gender equity. • Learners will access sites that provide information on training, apprenticeships or education. • Learners will view an online interview with a person currently in a NTO discussing problems and opportunities.
