  5. Ethics in the Locker Room • Some team have permitted alcohol only after games and on flights. • There is a time and place for alcohol • Teammates are performing and you have guys in the locker room not supporting. • This is a bad message for kids and the image of the players. • Alcohol has a time and a place.

  6. Players in the Mix • Josh Beckett, Jon Lester, and John Lackey • Spent September eating biscuits and fried chicken, drinking beer, and playing video games in the clubhouse during games. • These guys joined a hand full of others who decided to cut back on their exercise regimens.

  7. Lack of Leadership • Administration • Players • Dustin Pedroia quit leading. • Tim Wakefield chasing his 200th career win rather than team goals. • Kevin Youkilis played injured most of the season saying Jacoby Ellsbury hadn’t the prior season.

  8. Administration • Manager-Terry Francona • spent all season living in hotel after separating from his wife of 30 years. • Also taking left over pain killers from a 2010 knee surgery. • No set contract for the 2012 season

  9. Administration • General Manager-Theo Epstein • In charge of signing free agent Carl Crawford as the highest paid outfielder in history • .255 .289 .405 stole only 18 bases • On the other hand Red Sox already had “speedy lefthanded-hitting outfielder” in Ellsbury

  10. Administration • Owner- John W. Henry • Hadn’t won a playoff game since 2007 • When Henry bought team, they were a passion and priority to him, a championship driven team. • Seem to have been more about promoting their brand rather than their baseball team, just another stock to add to Roush Racing and Liverpool

  11. Results • Terry Francona– was declined to exercise 2012 option, but Hired by the Cleveland Indians for the 2012 season • Theo Epstein – Left and became the President of baseball operation at the Chicago Cubs • Jonathon Paplebon- (7yrs/ RedSox)signed with the Phillies in 2012 • Bobby Valentine- in a 2012 report new manager said, “there is no beer in the clubhouse and no beer on the last leg of plane trips” Espn.com http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=wS_8glJQxYs
