Unit 3: Linear Equations
Unit 3: Day 1 • Slope • defining, calculating, identifying, parallel & perpendicular lines • Writing Linear Equations: • Slope Intercept, Point Slope, Standard, Vertical & Horizontal • Announcements: • Extra Help • Monday (10/3) 2 – 3 B312 • Unit 3 Test on TUESDAY!!! (or should it be Wed??)
Agenda….. • Notes:Slope and Linear Writing Equations • Game: Risk and Reward • Only write the answer in each box (do your work on a separate sheet of paper) • Score must be at least a 720 before you can start the HW problems • HW • pg 78 #1-7, 19, 22-24, 28, 32, 46-48, 57 • pg. 86 #10-12, 16-18
Intercept Form y = mx + b or y = ax + b Ex #1: Jane sells cakes and it costs her $5 to make each cake. She sells the cakes for $12 each. Write an equation for her profit.
Intercept Form y = mx + b or y = ax + b Ex #2: Write an equation for a line with a slope of 2 and y-intercept of 6.
Intercept Form y = mx + b or y = ax + b Ex #3: Write an equation for the line that passes through the points (2, 2) and (6, 12)
Point Slope Form Ex #1: Write an equation for the line that passes through (2, 0) with a slope of 4.
Point Slope Form Ex #2: Write an equation for the line that passes through (1, 9) and (5, 20)
Point Slope Form Ex #3: Convert to slope-intercept form.
Standard Form Ax + By = C Ex #1: Adult tickets are $4 for the class play and children’s tickets are $2. Billy spends $10 on tickets. Write an equation for this situation.
Standard Form Ax + By = C Ex #2: Convert 4x + 2y = 10 to slope-intercept form.
Standard Form Ax + By = C Ex #3: Convert 10x + 7 = y to standard form.
Vertical & Horizontal Lines Vertical x = h Horizontal y = h Ex: Graph y = -5 Ex: Graph x = 4
Unit 3: Day 2 • Identifying & Calculating x and y intercepts • Graphing Linear Equations • Parallel & Perpendicular Lines: identifying slope and writing the new equation • Line of Best Fit (Linear Regression on Calculator) • Writing and Graphing equations for Real world linear problems • Interpreting Graphs (slope, values, etc) • Announcements: • Extra Help on Monday (10/3) 2 – 3 pm B312 • Unit 3 Test on TUESDAY!! • Please take out your HW so it can be checked while you work on the Problem of the Day
Problem of the day How is the graph of the line with equation 3x + 4y = 24 similar to the graph of the line with equation y = 3x + 6? (hint: solve for y in the first equation)
Agenda….. • Warm up: Drawing graph based on real world situations • Linear Regression Problem • Notes: Creating & Interpreting Graphs • HW • pg 85 #9, 26-27, 30-33, 36, 38, 41 • pg 96 #12, 14
Unit 3: Day 3 • Review for Unit 3 Test • Announcements: • Extra Help TODAY 2 – 3 pm B312 • Unit 3 Test TOMORROW! • Please take out your HW so it can be checked while you work on the Problem of the Day
Problem of the day Write an equation for the line through the pair of points. • (5, 9) and (5, -4.2) • (-1, 6) and (5, 6)
