  1. Welcome to Back-to-School Night Thursday, September 25, 2014 4th Grade: Mrs. Baldyga

Homework (LAL) Homework will be assigned Monday-Thursday • Selection Vocabulary Sentences • Grammar worksheets will be given throughout the week • Spelling will be given throughout the week • Study spelling words & selection vocabulary nightly • Reading Street- www.pearsonrealize.com Planners & Homework Folders: -Please check daily and sign nightly -Empty the “Leave at Home” side -Homework/Notes/Forms put in “Return to School” side *Students will stay in during lunch recess to make-up missing homework.

  3. Homework Policy • Students will be assigned homework Monday-Thursday. There may be homework over the weekend if there is a test to study for or a project. • The assignments will always be written in their Assignment Book each day. Please review these assignments with your child, and then initial or sign the book. • Homework is a reinforcement of the skills taught in class that day, so it is important that it be completed at home independently. Please assist your child if they need help. Students need to learn responsibility and put it back in their homework folder and return the assignments the following day.

  4. Homework Policy • Missed homework is still expected to be complete and points will be taken off accordingly. Each student is given one “Oops Pass” per marking period. • If your child is absent, please make arrangements to have his or her work picked up ASAP. If you call the office early in the morning, I will be more than happy to have your child’s work ready for you. I don’t expect it to be completed when they return from being out sick. We will make arrangements for a due date. • Try to set aside a routine each night for homework. You have to find a schedule that works best for your family. • Try to provide a comfortable and quiet place at home where your child can complete their assignments. • Graded assignments will be sent home in your child’s homework folder. Try to praise them for good work and help them correct any mistakes.

  5. MAPS • The MAPS test will be given at the beginning, middle and end of the year. • This tests evaluates the skills that are appropriate for each student’s academic level. ( Building Blocks) • Reports will be discussed during Fall Conferences

  6. What’s Happening and LAL Lists • Weekly news letter of the topics that are covered in LAL. ( Reading, Spelling, Grammar, and Writing) • Tentative test dates • LAL lists are given out for each new lesson. Introduction to the new selection, selection vocabulary , and spelling words. • Teacher Website and Somerdale Webpage www.somerdale-park.org

Mrs. Baldyga’s Classroom Rules • Listen when others are talking. • Follow directions. • Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. • Work quietly and do not disturb others. • Show respect for school and personal property. • Work and play in a safe manner. • Treat others the way you want to be treated. • HOT ( Homework On Time)- Behavior Incentive

  8. Grading/ Weighting • 100-93 A 40%- Test/Projects • 92-85 B 15%- Comprehension • 84-77 C 10%- Classwork • 76-66 D 25%- Writing/Grammar/Quiz • 65 and below F 10%- Homework Writing Rubric: 5= A 4= B 3= C 2= D 1= F

Dates for Interims & Report Cards Interims: Report Cards: -Oct. 3rd -Nov 14th -Dec. 12th -January 30th -Feb 27th -April 2nd -May 8th -June 16th * Please access your child’s grades on Power School weekly to check their progress. A password sheet has been given out with your username and password.

  10. Birthdays & Parties • Birthday Parties are now held in the cafeteria. • You have the opportunity to choose the birthday treat for your child’s class. In addition, the birthday child will receive a birthday surprise from the “Birthday Box”. All snacks will be delivered to your child in the cafeteria during their lunch period. • Please contact: Linda Mackara at: som@nsfm or call 85-783-6261 x117 • Holidays celebrated in the classroom: Halloween, Thanksgiving (Cafeteria with the whole 4th grade), Winter party, Valentine’s Day, Spring party, End of the year party.
