Temperature rise and measurement of resistance of circuit. 3. Tests to prove the withstand capability of main and earthing circuits subjected to rated peak and short time withstand currents. 4. Saves Lives: How? • What is an internal arc?It is a high resistance arc fault within the switchgearenclosure due to insulation failure. • What are the effects of an internal arc fault?The fault current passing through the electric arc increases the air temperature inside the faulty compartment. The hot air expands and exerts very high pressure on thecompartment walls and doors. If the switchgear is notdesigned and qualified for an internal arc, thehigh pressure can rupture the enclosure and endangers the life of persons working near the switchgear.
