  1. Procurement @OxfordPete Gronbech Tender: Specify as much as you can, even down to cable colours, labels and blanking plates. (More difficult if you have to go to EU Tender) Talk to the vendors to see what is available, don’t limit yourselves to what you had last time. Evaluate what's best for you, Spec/£, TB/£, but also other factors. (Watch out for misc costs installation and testing etc) Service levels, speed of delivery, compatibility with existing kit, on site spares, acceptance tests. Balance of storage vs CPU and not just CPU but number of cores. Useful to have vendor run HEPSPEC06 as part of the acceptance tests.

  2. What we got • AMD 8 core dual CPU servers in twin squared chassis. 2GB/core, dual sata systems disks (RAID 0) • 36 slot (*2TB) disk servers. 10GigE too expensive for us so compromise with 6 channel bonded gigabit Ethernet channels. • Extra 3com 5500G to integrate with our existing setup.
