  3. About the Author • Jonathan Swift was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1667 • Graduate of Trinity College, Received a doctorate in 1707 • Worked as a assistant to Irish diplomat William Temple • Was also a Anglican Priest

About the Author (Cont.) • Swift satirized various political topics and movements • Satire: the use of irony or sarcasm • Works include: A Modest Proposal, Tale of the Tub, and Gulliver's Travels • Swift received criticism for his works in Gulliver’s Travel’s as he expressed anthropic views on humanity. Critics claim that Swift’s mental instability had become apparent within the fourth part of his book. • Jonathan Swift died on 1747 after many years of suffering from Meniere’s Disease.
