Why Don’t People Report Domestic Violence? • Victims remaining silent due to fear of the offender. • Reluctance of victims/community members to report domestic violence because they consider it a family matter. • Victims general fear of police. • Victims not knowing who to speak to or how to make the first step

  3. Why is it important to Report Domestic Violence? • Domestic Violence impacts on people from different socioeconomic groups, genders, ages and cultures. • Domestic Violence is one of the largest volume crimes that police deal with on a daily basis. • In recent years there has been an increase in victims of domestic violence between the age groups of 10-24 years.

  4. Why Call “000” ? • The NSW Police Force are committed to protecting victims of domestic violence. • The Police Force has over 100 dedicated Domestic Violence Liaison Officers (DVLO) • They are specialists in dealing with Domestic and Family Violence issues.

  5. What to Do when you Call “000” If You are a Victim.... The operator will ask a number of questions. Ensure you give concise details or answers to the best of your ability to the following:Location or address. • Type of premises, eg house, unit and on which level. • What is actually happening now? • Your knowledge of any firearms in the premises or produced by any person. • The whereabouts of the offender, ie. Are they still at the location? • Number of children present and their whereabouts. • Has alcohol or drugs been consumed? • Does any person have a medical or psychiatric history? • Is there an Enforceable AVO in place? • Relationship of the persons, if known.

What to Do when you Call “000” If you are a Family Member, Relative or Neighbour...... • You do not have to provide your name when reporting an incident that is occurring or that you suspect is occurring. • If you know someone who is or you suspect is a victim and is in need of urgent assistance. • YOU can call the Police on ‘000’ and remain anonymous.

How Can your voice be heard? “ Love Isn't Violent School Competition” • Students can use their creative skills in music, multimedia, drama, art, and textiles classes to create a song, picture, painting, t-shirt etc that uses the slogan “ Love isn't violent (LIV). ”  • Students from years 7- 12 are welcome to enter the competition. • Students will only be able to enter the competition via the Domestic Violence Website where they can upload their work via the Facebook link.
