  2. genial • A genial person is warm and friendly. • Would you want to be friends with someone genial? • Who do you know that is genial?

  3. prognostication • A forecast or a prediction • The prognostication of rain meant we didn’t get to go on a picnic.

  4. stricken • To be suddenly and badly affected by something, such as illness or fear. • After being around my friend at her birthday party, I was stricken with chicken pox.

  5. dramatically • If something is done dramatically, it is done in a striking or impressive way. • Who can show me how to speak dramatically?

  6. restrain • If you restrain something, you hold it back or limit it. • We had to restrain Brian to keep him from hitting Zachary.

  7. protest • A protest is a way of demonstrating that you are against something. • When we went to Washington D.C., we saw a crowd holding signs to protest the War in Iraq.

  8. feverishly • To be working quickly and excitedly • We feverishly finished the signs for the pep rally. • When would you work feverishly?

  9. overcome • When you are overcome by something, you are overpowered by it. • I was overcome with emotion when I saw my little cousin for the first time in the hospital.

  10. flop • A flop is a failure • My twelfth birthday party was a flop because it rained at the park. • Can you think of a time something was a flop?

  11. spectacular • Very impressive and draws a lot of attention • The fireworks display at the 4th of July parade was spectacular.
