Menes • Founded city of Crocodopolis • Founded the city of Memphis – Ancient day Capital • United Upper and Lower Egypt • Was the king of Upper and defeated the king of Lower • Wanted to reunite country so he did and then named it EGYPT • Upper Egypt wore tall white crown • Lower Egypt wore a red crown • Combined to two for unification • Died at age 63. His death is a mystery but legend says he was attacked by crocodiles in the Nile River.

Queen Hatshepsut • Rule • First female pharaoh of Egypt • Ruled from 1479 B.C. – 1457 B.C. • Female Pharaoh? • She would dress as a man • Would wear a wig on her chin as a beard • Achievements • Ordered many temples to be repaired due to previous battle • Peace and prosperity during her reign • Increased trade • Gold and ivory • Leopard skins and other exotic animals • After Death • Obelisks and temples built in her honor • Her name has been removed from every monument by the order a later pharaoh
