  3. Active or Passive? • “The baker bakes the bread.” (Active Sentence) • The subject performs the action of the verb. • The object receives the action. Verb Subject Object

  4. Active or Passive? • The bread is baked by the baker. (Passive Sentence) • Object of the active sentence becomes the subject of the passive sentence. • Subject of the active sentence becomes the object of the by-phrase. be + Past Participle Object Subject

  5. Make Passive Sentences.. The chairs aremade by the carpenter.

  6. Be + Past Participle The cherry-pie isbaked by the chef.

  7. Change into Passive.. Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone. The telephone wasinvented by Bell.

  8. Be + Past Participle Egyptians built the Great Pyramid. The Great Pyramid wasbuilt by Egyptians.

  9. Present Continuous:Be + being + Past Participle The hairdresser is cutting her hair. Her hair is being cut by the hairdresser.

  10. Be + being + Past Participle They are planting flowers. Flowers are being planted by them.

  11. Be + being + Past Participle The Japanese girl is inflating the red balloon. The red balloon is being inflated by the Japanese girl.

  12. Will Future:Will + Be + Past Participle My father will mow the grass. The grass will bemowed by my father.

  13. Will + Be + Past Participle Hamilton will pass Schumacher. Schumacher will bepassed by Hamilton.

  14. Going to Be + Past Participle She is going to eat the hamburger. The hamburger is going to be eaten.

  15. Going to Be + Past Participle The postman is going to deliver the letters. The letters are going to bedelivered by the postman.

  16. Present Perfect:Have / Has + Been + Past Participle He has painted the walls. The walls have beenpainted.

  17. Have / Has + Been + Past Participle Workers have carried all the stones. All the stones have been carried by the workers.
